Today we took part in the annual ‘Santa Charity Collection’ of the Bushby Lions Club in Leicester. Members had arranged for a Santa sledge which was pulled through the streets by a car playing Christmas songs. We were given highly visible security vests and collection buckets. The Lions Club supports a range of charities such as the ‘Rainbow Trust’, ‘Vista for the Blind’, the ‘Alzheimer Society’ and others. The charity collection took place in the Bushby and Thurnby areas of Leicester, which are affluent suburbs.
Unfortunately not many people were at home or did open the door but those who did were very friendly and accommodating and generally donated at least one Pound. It is planned to hold this collection for three days and we will take part throughout this period.
The Lions Club members were very friendly and were happy to see us taking part. The Lions Club is an international network of independent charities with philanthropic ideals.
Members had arranged a dinner at the end of the door to door collection. We didn’t attend today but will take part tomorrow and after tomorrow. We found the Lions Club members very friendly and happy people, which proves that engaging in charitable and philanthropic activities provides a sense of happiness which can not be achieved by selfish pursuits.
The Lions Club is a worldwide charitable society devoted to social and international service, taking its membership primarily from business and professional groups. The Lions had recently their 100 year service celebration.
